This painting was inspired by the scriptural descriptions of Lord Shiva, the greatest of the devas (Mahadeva), who is known to carry his trident of which the three points represent, among other meanings, the gunas (modes of nature) which are Goodness, Passion and Ignorance, as well as killing the demons of lust, anger and greed; he plays his drum to announce the evanescence of
all material worlds, and his long matted hair, showing rununciation of all things temporary, which catches the Ganga river flowing forever onward from the spiritual realm.
About Vishnudas Art

I have had many teachers of art within the last 40+ years as I've evolved with my visions. My paintings have become more of a consequence of meditation rather than the result of sensual stimulation as we find an abundance of in the art world today. So I can say that these paintings are the outcome of my visions, which are important to me, not simply fanciful imaginations. I base my work on the descriptions found in Vedic and Vaishnava scripture. I study, the visions come, I meditate, I draw, then paint. It is nothing mystical to me, but the mystery may lie more in this and my previous life's history, as is with each one of us. The mystical realm that some are fearless to tread involves asking such questions as: why have we come to this...

SB 12.13.16 Just as the Gaṅgā is the greatest of all rivers, Lord Acyuta the supreme among deities and Lord Śambhu [Śiva] the greatest of Vaiṣṇavas, so Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the greatest of all Purāṇas.

Thanks Michael! I will fix that quote for you... Just as the Ganga is the greatest of all rivers, Lord Acyuta, the supreme among deities and Lord Sambhu [Shiva] the greatest of Vaishnavas, so Srimad-Bhagavatam is the greatest of all Purnas. - SB 12.13.16

Beautiful and powerful spiritual art. This is a priceless window into understanding the nature and form of Shiva. The painting technique is fantastic and this image forms such an important contribution to the understanding of the legacy of this great being. Your description of Mahadeva is also very useful for understanding more about the meaning of his form and the spiritual apparatus. The barren frozen landscape is unique and breath taking.

Thank you very much Michael! Vaishnavanam yatha Sambhu!
